Image: INPS Japan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In line with predictions<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commenting on the three warmest year series, Professor Stephen Belcher CBE \u2013 the Met Office Chief Scientist \u2013 said: \u201cFrom 2023, the globe has seen a surge in average annual temperatures. The three-year average global temperature from 2023 to 2025 has been 1.47\u00b0C above the average for 1850-1900.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Tim Osborn is Director of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uea.ac.uk\/groups-and-centres\/climatic-research-unit\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Climatic Research Unit at UEA<\/u><\/a>. He said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOur global temperature observations show that the world is continuing to warm in line with predictions made by climate scientists worldwide.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA natural climate variation in the Pacific Ocean, known as the El Ni\u00f1o-Southern Oscillation, temporarily added about 0.1\u00b0C to the global temperature in 2023 and 2024, contributing to the abrupt onset of the recent temperature surge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis natural influence weakened by 2025, and therefore the global temperature we observed in 2025 provides a clearer picture of the underlying warming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSharp and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions would slow, and eventually stop, further human-caused changes in the world\u2019s climate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Human-induced greenhouse gas rise<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Climate scientist Colin Morice of the Met Office said: \u201cThe long-term increase in global annual average temperature is driven by the human-induced rise in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
