NEW YORK (IDN) \u2013 The much-publicized Climate Action Summit<\/a>, hosted by the United Nations on September 23, took off on a not-so-positive note even though it was billed as a high-level meeting of world political leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite dire warnings from UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres of an impending \u201cclimate emergency\u201d \u2013 with hurricanes, droughts, floods and heat waves in the far horizon \u2013 only 64 speakers, mostly heads of government and heads of state, turned up for the summit. \u00a0\u00a0FRENCH\u00a0<\/a>|\u00a0ITALIAN<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0JAPANESE<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0SPANISH<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BONN (IDN) \u2013 The Great Green Wall (GGW) initiative has over the past 13 years restored close to 20 million hectares of land, according to a report released on September 7 at a virtual meeting of environmental ministers from Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Djibouti together with regional partners, international organizations and development agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kazakhstan Needs Young Graduates as Teachers for Education Reforms to Succeed<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TARAZ (IDN) \u2013 Since 2016, the educational system in Kazakhstan has undergone numerous reforms, and in October 2018 President Nursultan Nazarbayev announced further reforms, including a pledge to increase spending in education along with science and healthcare to 10 percent of national GDP within five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the aim of making Kazakhstan one of the 30 most developed countries in the world by 2050, the education budget will be boosted dramatically and a Law on the Status of Teachers will be developed to make teaching an attractive profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
