{"id":5784,"date":"2023-12-14T23:12:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T14:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inpsjapan.com\/en\/?p=5784"},"modified":"2024-01-25T18:44:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T09:44:48","slug":"ebrd-provides-footing-for-youth-led-businesses-in-central-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inpsjapan.com\/en\/news\/ebrd-provides-footing-for-youth-led-businesses-in-central-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD Provides Footing for Youth-led Businesses in Central Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsnews.net\/author\/anton-usov\/\">Anton Usov<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ASTANA, Kazakhstan (IPS)\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is addressing the issue of youth entrepreneurship and employment in Central Asia by launching a seven-year \u20ac200 million (US$ 218 million) Youth in Business (YiB) programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme is designed to provide better access to finance and relevant training to young entrepreneurs in the region, where up to one third of the population is aged between 18 and 34 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Youth in Business programme in Central Asia (YiB CA) will target micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) led or owned by young individuals under the age of 35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will consist of up to \u20ac200 million for on-lending to up to 20 partner financial institutions in Central Asia and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/mongolia.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mongolia<\/a>; targeted non-financial services for eligible small businesses will be provided by the Bank\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/small-business-support\/advice-for-small-businesses.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advice for Small Businesses<\/a>&nbsp;programme to help develop their entrepreneurial skills through training, advisory services and networking opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ipsnews.net\/Library\/2023\/12\/EBRD-Provides_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-183509\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7307692307692308;width:784px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The EBRD\u2019s investment will be complemented by a package of up to \u20ac30 million consisting of grants and concessional co-financing to stimulate inclusive lending and youth entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is expected that the first loan agreements under the YiB CA will include: a loan of up to US$ 10 million to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/uzbekistan.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Uzbekistan<\/a>\u2019s largest private bank&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hamkorbank.uz\/en\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hamkorbank<\/a>, a loan of up to US$ 8 million to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shinhan.kz\/en\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shinhan Bank Kazakhstan<\/a>, a loan of up to US$ 4 million to Mongolia\u2019s leading micro lender&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcapital.mn\/?lng=en\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Transcapital<\/a>, and a loan of up to US$ 2 million to Kazakhstan-based microfinancial organisation&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/arnurcredit.kz\/en\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arnur Credit<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A market assessment conducted by the EBRD in the region reveals that while many young people across Central Asia have a strong entrepreneurial mindset, very few have access to equal economic opportunities. Only around 10 per cent of them have access to necessary training and professional expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is very important for Central Asia, where MSMEs account for almost half of total employment and contribute to almost 40 per cent of regional GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant support and concessional finance to the programme is provided by the government of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/kazakhstan.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kazakhstan<\/a>, the Small Business Impact Fund and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/european-union.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">European Union<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EBRD is a leading institutional investor in Central Asia.
