The exposition which Soka Gakkai International (SGI) made in collaboration with International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) was first shown in 2012 in Hiroshima, the sight of first ever nuclear bombings along with Nagasaki. It has since been seen in 90 cities in 20 countries. Kazakhstan is the 21st country to host it.
IDN-INPS Multimedia Director Katsuhiro Asagiri, after covering the opening ceremony of the exhibition at the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy, joined the SGI delegation headed by Mr. Hirotsugu Terasaki, Director General of Peace and Global Issues of the SGI, a two-day field trip to Semey city and Kurchatova town in East Kazakhstan Region, once the center of operations for the adjoining Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site.

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the end of nuclear weapons testing in Semipalatinsk, the primary testing venue for the Soviet Union’s nuclear weapons, the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, and the ratification by Kazakhstan as the 26th country to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
